Welcome back to the December series! Last week, I discussed five feeding blogs that give incredibly helpful tips for children of all ages.
This week I am going to focus on pediatric physical therapy.
If you have any concerns about your child’s gross motor skills, this is the post for you! Gross motor skills include crawling, walking, throwing, kicking, catching, balancing, navigating stairs, and more.
Let’s Water the Sponge!
After doing some research, it turns out that there are a plethora of pediatric speech therapy and occupational therapy blogs! Pediatric physical therapy blogs, however, seem a rarity to come across.
You can Google questions all day long such as, “Why isn’t my toddler walking?” and come across relevant information from various sources (Healthline and Parents to name a couple.) However, if your preference is to find a blog run by a Physical Therapist that aids parents of little ones, here are some of my favorites that I highly recommend:
1.) Pink Oatmeal
Why I like it: Chanda, a physical therapist and mother, runs this website. She has clearly spent a lot of time and energy putting together a variety of useful free resources and ideas. Furthermore, she offers membership access for parents who are interested in engaging their children in fun gross motor movement! Personally, I can’t wait to try out some of these ideas at home with my boys!
Why I like it: Dr. Rebecca Talmud, PT, DPT, created this incredible blog that shares tips and tricks with parents about helping little ones! Commonly asked questions are answered here. Learn about how to get your child to walk up and down stairs, jump, catch balls, and more!
3.) Mommy and Me PT
Why I like it: Brittany Gartner PT, DPT, gives myriad tips and advice on her blog! Even though posts are infrequent, she has spent a lot of time thinking through recommendations for parents. Her site is user-friendly and she teaches parents how to use toys to achieve gross motor goals. Finally, a really neat feature of this site is that if you have questions about your child’s development, then you can request a consultation directly from Brittany!
This is certainly not an exhaustive list and there MANY other resources on the web! These are just the blogs that have caught my eye and could be worth following if you have questions about your child’s gross motor development.
Feel free to post in the comment section below with any other resources you know in regards to pediatric physical therapy!
